I have a few thoughts about recent issues in the news. Please read the links, they are intended as proof to what I am explaining. I hope to inform you with this information but also hope.
Freedom of Religion in the Cross-hairs
One of the main problems with this topic is people are so entrenched in their views they often are not willing to examine both sides with an open mind. I get it. No one likes to be told they’re doing something wrong. Also, I have family, friends and co-workers who are homosexual. I do not love them any less. Love does not mean agreement. While religious freedom is of central importance in this issue, there are social, cultural, physiological and emotional reasons why the government should not endorse homosexuality. It’s not simply one person loving another. I can’t change your mind on this, you have to do your own learning. Perhaps you would read why a homosexual does not want same-sex marriage, and discover what he calls The Big Lie?
A few questions: If a homosexual man visits a florist and is refused service for a gay wedding, why doesn’t he just go to another florist to get the flowers? The fact that it is a gay wedding is important because the florist has no problem rendering services in any other circumstance. By refusing service, is the florist forcing his views on someone else? What are the damages? Why does the offended person come back with an army of lawyers intending to force the provision of service and/or try close down business?
Answer” because the homosexual movement is intent on forcing their beliefs on those who do not agree with them.1 Please, don’t let anyone tell you this is about fairness. It’s not. “Gay marriage” is about social acceptance and celebration of an action and silencing dissent through governmental force. The Supreme Court ruling changed the definition of marriage and oppression of dissenting views will soon follow. See previous link for proof, and please read the following article for further information (link is part four, parts 1-3 are available on the site).2
Let me leave this topic with a few other questions. Should a black baker be forced to bake a cake for a KKK rally? I hope the answer is “no.” Or an gay baker to provide a cake which reads, “We are Against Gay Marriage” for a Christian? Again, I hope your the answer is “no.”
In regard to the Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act: Words no longer have meaning. The court decided to ignore the plain meaning of the text even though it was very clear. What does this mean for us? We are being ruled by a nation of men, we are no longer a nation of laws. Since laws are made of words and words have no meaning, laws have no meaning. Rather, what our rulers say is the (changeable) law of the land. This is not unlike what the Founders and people of the United States fought against back in 1776 when Parliament kept passing laws without their consent, they felt they were being ruled by a tyrant. I feel we are being ruled by tyrants.
Those who celebrate both rulings tell those who oppose them, “it’s the law of the land.” However, the Constitution, the supreme “law of the land,” was ignored in both of these cases.
Government at War with Citizens?
Congress just passed a trade law (Trans-Pacific Partnership) which was classified. What? A classified trade law? Yes you heard right. I could see a military strategy, or a new weapons programs being classified, but a trade law?! The passage of this law hearkens back to Nancy Pelosy’s famous phrase, “We have to pass the bill to see what is in it.” But this time from Paul Ryan. I am surprised to find myself agreeing with very liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren who said, if the American people could read this bill it would not pass. What are they trying to hid in a trade bill? Apparently our government does not trust its people.
The pro-child killing Planned Parenthood is selling baby body parts for profit. Read that again. The pro-child killing Planned Parenthood is selling baby body parts for profit. If this does not cause some distress in your inner being something is profoundly wrong. I had a hard time getting through the article I linked above, I was repulsed and very angry by the time I finished. This is an issue we should not let die down. Keep talking about it, share stories, call your senators and representative and ask them to defund this racist murder mill.
None of these issues will improve unless we stand (get up and say something) for truth and what is right. Sometimes it doesn’t seem like “just saying something” matters, but you never know what you say may influence someone to change their mind. With theses challenges come great opportunity. We can win but it will take constant effort.
Let me also give some reassurance—I know I need it. God is sovereign. He is the supreme ruler, if He knows when a sparrow falls, the actions of our government and Planned Parenthood have not gone unnoticed. “God is in absolute authority. He is Creator and His dominion is perfect and final. He is free to dispose of His creation as He will; but His will, as has been seen, is wholly guided by the true and benevolent features of His Person.”3
As Romans 8:28 says, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.” His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isa 55:9). If you are a Christian take comfort in these verses because… if you are not a Christian seriously consider Christianity (it has the best answers to life’s questions and problems), at least decide to uphold truth and liberty according to the Constitution.
We can take comfort in God, even if we feel our government and country are spinning out of control. But this does not mean we should be complacent as the glib cliché goes, “Let go and let God.” We have been put here in this time and place for a reason: “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.”4 I might sound like a broken record but this is important to remember. We need to pursue God with all our mind, soul, and strength. And we can do this by reading God’s Word and learning more about the issues of the day.
We also know the end, just not when.

1See the book: After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 90s for proof this is an organized movement. Here is an article on this book, pay attention to the excerpt, especially the bold type.
2Here is the link to a superb resource elucidating the consequences of same-sex marriage endorsement form a non-religious perspective. It also explains how homosexuality hurts everyone and the studies to back up the claims.
